In the year 2298 the Earth was united under the rule of Emperor Alexander Chan, founder and leader of the United Republic of Earth (URE). Emperor Chan stressed obedience towards governmental figures. Children were forced to attend very strict schools where they were taught to love their Emperor. The pursuit of knowledge and scientific discovery was as highly stressed as respect for the Emperor was. Within the first 20 years of Chan's rule more scientific discoveries had been made than had been within the 1000 years prior. In 2316 scientists had discovered how to successfully perform cold fusion. This discovery led to the first interstellar spaceships. In 2318 URE began colonizing other planets and moon in their solar system by using large terraformers that make the planet/moon habitable. By 2337 advances in space travel technology led to the colonizing of planets outside of Earth's solar system.
In the year 2609, after two centuries of warfare waged between The United Solar System Collective (USSC), a dictatorial government, and The People's Republic of Titan (PRT), a pseudo-communist government, a small group of about 200 refugeeswho were scientists, soldiers from The Coalition to Free Enceladus (CFE), and civilians from the moon Enceladus, successfully escaped the war by stealing a PRT vessel that was docked for minor repairs. This ship is known as the Titan 5280.
Due to a pursuing military fleet the crew of the Titan 5280 had no choice but to flee towards the outer rim of the Milky Way. Luckily, the ships following them were ordered to fall back and return to their original patrols. After breaking through several military outposts on the outskirts of the Milky Way the crew of the Titan was finally free to rebuild their society within the ship.
After much debate it was decided that it would be unwise to return to the Milky Way, due to heavy military patrols in all of its sectors. Instead, the crew decided to head towards the galaxy Andromeda, since it was rumored that many refugees had fled there.
Six months after the Titan left the orbit of the Milky Way the leaders of the crew decided that it would be best to have a large portion of the crew (mainly civilians and non-essential scientists) enter cryo-sleep down in the cryogenic labs and remain there until they had reached Andromeda. There are 99 people that will be a part of the shift crew. There are a total of 33 individual 3 year shifts. (Note: This means that your characters are 3 years older than they were when they first went on the ship.) Each shift contains 3 people: Pilot, Maintenance, and Cryogenics Monitor. These shifts started as soon as the rest of the crew entered cryo-sleep. When it was not your shift you would be in cryo-sleep. When one shift was two months away from ending the Cryogenics Monitor would "thaw" (wake-up) the other shift. The other shift would then spend two months getting used to post-cryo life and getting informed of past events, problems, malfunctions, etc. on the ship.
However, before the crew went into cryo-sleep they shut down all non-essential parts of the ship, including the majority of the agricultural center.
In 2707, two years before the Titan arrived at Andromeda, the last shift crew started waking up all essential crew members. They began preparing the ship for the "thawing" of the rest of the crew.
The year is 2709 and the entire crew has been taken out of cryo. The general morale of the crew is the highest it has ever been. This is due to the fact that the ship had finally entered the outskirts of Andromeda earlier this week and is only days away from entering its first new solar system.
Our story begins here...
The crew began preparing for entry on Feb. 3, 2709. Captain Wilkins prepared his crew for the entry that was only four days away. Many of the crew members had recently been taken out of cryo sleep and were suffering from post cryo sickness. Meanwhile Weapons Officer (Gunnery Officer [but in the future]) Wilson and Colonel Draz were working on plans for new weapons systems for the ship. Probes were sent out to the nearby planet A1P5 and the other planets in that solar system. During the seriousness Coepi, one of the refugees, ran around the ship causing mischief.
Four days later the ship arrived in the solar system. The probes had returned back with a positive ID on plant and animal life, along with intelligent life. Several refugee ships did land on A1P5 as well...several years ago. These abandoned ships were mostly stationed within a 19 mile radius of several mysterious pillars. These 1/2 mile high pillars were covered in strange symbols. They emitted random bursts of gamma, radio, and magnetic fields. A reconnaissance team prepared to land on the planet, near one of the outer probes.
After a short trip to the surface, the recon team exited their small ship to find a very strange world. The team members visually scanned the area while Xander headed off to grab one of the Titan's nearby probes. As Xander walked away a few of the crew members, including Xander, began hearing a strange humming noise coming from the trees. Immediately, the military members sprung into action and prepared themselves for meeting the source (unaware of its location and intentions). Xander moved toward the probe to scan the area but when he drew near, the humming stopped. Xander scanned the area but was unable to find any sentient life forms. Shortly after, the crew hopped back into the recon ship with the probe and headed off toward the refugee ship.
Meanwhile, on the ship, Heron, Wilson, and Dawkins were trapped in the reactor room after discovering that the ship's systems were failing. They were unable to find out why, but did come to the conclusion that someone may have tampered with the ship's computer network.
